This month we all agreed our Woman of Inspiration had to be Joanna Lumley, who not only changed the minds of the government regarding the rights of the Ghurkas in the most graceful and intelligent way, but continues to inspire women everywhere on how we can all become change agents by staying in our feminine power. I had my own Ab Fab moment with Joanna this month when we bonded at the UK Fashion Export Awards and shared our feelings on everything from the popular TV series, to politics and our grandchildren. SEED SUPPORTS THE WOMEN AND
Eve Bazaiba who has herself been in prison for two years for speaking up for women’s rights in the DRC, spent the previous Saturday with Eve Ensler, the inspirational founder of V-Day and Vagina Monologues, in Kinshasa, the capitol of the DRC with women survivors of these atrocities. Eve Bazaiba told us that "the two Eves stood up together with the women survivors of this terrible violence committing to create a new beginning for our world." In my capacity as Chair of the V-Day UK Committee, I am leading a series of high-profile activities to bring attention and support to the women of the DRC over the next two years and I ask that SEED members accompany me on this journey. The situation in the DRC is the worst experience of rape and violence against women and girls that has ever occurred anywhere in the world. And it is all about control of the DRC’s resource-rich mines which supply us with the minerals we need for our mobile phones and other technology. Together, as consumers, we can put pressure on the big manufacturers to change this economic war and put an end to this terrible state of affairs. I will be keeping you up-to-date with the campaign as it develops and how you can be involved. Visit www.vday.org for further information.

THE JUNE SPECIAL EXERCISE: It’s time to challenge your fears, build your confidence and take this opportunity to step up and take the SEED Challenge. Think of one simple act you have always resisted doing based on old fears and out of date negative beliefs. Yet by simply saying yes, you know you can move out of this fear and move forward. Whether it’s going to the cinema on your own; trying some public speaking; taking a dance class; calling a special person in your life and let him or her know how much they really mean to you or becoming an activist for change, you know you can do it. Challenge yourself this month to step up to the next stage of your life. Let me know how you get on by coming to our community site and blogging your experience. Meanwhile I hope to meet you at our SEED Experience Day on July 5th – so don’t forget to click here to reserve your place |
